Statistics on the Web: VIVA and Beyond

Join the VIVA Resources for Users Committee for a summer workshop on statistics available through VIVA resources and freely available on the web. Hands-on workshops for VIVA librarians will be held on Wednesday, June 6 at Virginia State University in Petersburg and on Thursday, June 7 at Radford University. The agenda for the day is:

9:30 -10:00 am Registration
10:00 -11:00 am   LexisNexis Statistical (presented by Beth Bigman of Lexis Nexis)
11:00 am - noon   StatUSA (presented at VSU by Alan Zoellner, Government Information Librarian, The College of William and Mary, and at Radford by Bruce Obenhaus, Collection Management and Research and Instructional Services, Virginia Tech)
noon -1:00 pm Lunch provided by LexisNexis
1:00 - 2:30 pm Statistical Information on the Web (presented by Donna Tolson, Head, Scholars’ Lab, University of Virginia Library)

 

Registration deadline: Thursday, May 24. Registration limited to 40 at VSU and 50 at Radford.To register, please contact viva@gmu.edu and give the name, institution, and email of each person attending, and the date and location of training. Also note if a vegetarian lunch option is preferred.

Radford University Information

Training Location: The Training Fair will be in McConnell Library, Classroom B (Room 380).  This is on Level 3, the entrance level of the library.  Go past the Reference Desk toward the rear of the building; follow signs for Classroom B.

Directions: From Interstate 81, take Exit 109 onto Route 177/Tyler Avenue into Radford, about 3 miles.  At the third traffic light, turn right onto Jefferson Street.  You will be at the University.  Follow Jefferson until it ends at Main Street, and turn left.  At the 2nd traffic light on Main Street, turn left into Parking Lot C.  You will be at McConnell Library, the rear of the building faces the parking lots and Main Street.  

Parking:  Please park in Lot C, behind McConnell Library.  This lot is designated for commuting students.  Visitor parking permits will be handed out with registration packets.
