Access to materials in the University Archives has traditionally been through its paper card catalog located in the Special Collections Research Center (SCRC). The card catalog indexes persons, subjects, and titles of William and Mary publications noting where information can be found within the various collections and groups of records. These people, subject, and publications cards for University Archives have been digitized and are now available for searching online. Researchers interested in topics related to the history of the College of William and Mary are encouraged to begin their search here.
Separate paper card catalogs continue to be available in the SCRC for current and past faculty, administrators, and members of the Board of Visitors, as well as for an index for the Alumni Gazette, the William and Mary News, and The Flat Hat, the student newspaper. More detailed information is provided in the finding aids, inventories, or folder headings lists available for collections. Selected University Archives materials are listed in the Library's online catalog, but the main access is through the card catalog. Researchers are encouraged to contact the University Archivist with questions or if their search queries generate no results.
