FBI Releases Preliminary Statistics for Law Enforcement Officers Killed in 2008

Reports that 41 police officers were killed in the line of duty during 2008, 17 fewer than in 2007. Preliminary figures were also released for causes of death, whether firearms were involved and type of protective equipment worn. Also reports that 67 officers died in accidents while performing their duties. From the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
