Issued as an appeal for information about people associated with
the College of William and Mary from its earliest days to 1888,
the Provisional List has become an important resource for those
searching for information about these people.  This list is by no
means a complete one since many of the early College records
were lost due to fires on campus in 1705, 1859, and 1862.
Further information is available for some of those listed.  To
