Swems Collection is the most vital part of our library. Students and faculty depend on our print and electronic resources to advance their research and academic pursuits. Over the past six years, Commonwealth of Virginia funding for collections has only increased by $2400. Consequently, we rely heavily on private funding to maintain and cultivate a collection worthy of the scholarly pursuits of William & Mary students and faculty. Support is especially necessary as the demand for electronic resources continues to grow.
Swem Library has a multitude of Naming Opportunities for its donors. Within the building itself, there are multiple group and individual study rooms that remain available. There are also opportunities to donate computers for student use, provide for collections needs, or purchase equipment for the Media Center. Additionally, Swem Library provides the most affordable endowment option for donors to the College. Named library collection endowments are possible with an investment of $25,000which can be made with a current or deferred contribution. For more information, contact the Development Office at (757) 221-3060.

There are many other ways in which you can support Swem Library including, but not limited to, our special collections. Our Special Collections Department provides the College with rare books, unique manuscripts, and archival materials that make primary research possible. Swem Library also houses the Warren E. Burger Collection, which consists of Supreme Court Chief Justice Burgers lifetime of professional and personal papers. The College is honored to serve as the permanent home of these papers, which will become an immeasurable resource for future historians and legal scholars.
Swem Librarys ultimate goal is to provide the scholarly resources and practical support for students and faculty to pursue academic research. We are extremely grateful for any support that you wish to extend to Swem to assist us in this goal.
