What are Durable Links?

"Durable links" go directly to full-text articles and other electronic documents and can be incorporated within a Blackboard course or other campus-related web page. If material is available online, it may eliminate the need for providing a paper copy on Library Reserves. The following article link is a durable url (also known as a "persistent" or "stable" url)--taking you specifically to the article itself.

Fairweather, James Steven
The Mythologies of Faculty Productivity: Implications for Institutional Policy and Decision Making
The Journal of Higher Education - Volume 73, Number 1, January/February 2002, pp. 26-48

See the Guide to Creating Durable Links for information on constructing links from various online databases.

Library Catalog Search Links

It is also possible to create a link to our library catalog that includes an embedded search. Clicking on the link initiates a search in the catalog for books and other documents (not journal articles), retrieving current results. For example,

Subject Search: Stem cells--Research.

Locating Full-Text articles and documents

Our subscription databases are on the Swem Library website in alphabetical and subject lists. Most of our full-text databases are also included on the Full-Text Electronic Collections page. The Electronic Journal List provides access to individual journal titles available online--some are subscription-based and others are freely available. The online catalog also contains electronic links to other items such as government documents.

For assistance in identifying articles or other electronic documents, please contact your department's library liaison or Swem Library's Reference Department.

Your department's IT liaison can help you with Blackboard or editing web pages.
