Eligibility
Swem Library checks out laptop computers to current W&M students, faculty, and staff at its Circulation Desk. Each laptop is wireless enabled for networking, has a CD-RW drive, and access to campus resources like printing, your local H: drive, along with a full complement of productivity software.
Checkout
Eligible patrons may check out a laptop by:
- Presenting a current William & Mary ID and a second current photo ID (e.g. driver's license);
- Signing an acknowledgement of responsibility for the laptop; and
- Inspect the laptop for damage.
When the laptop is returned, library staff will inspect the laptop to ensure no damage has occurred.
Availability, Fines & Liabilities
- Laptops are available on a first-come, first-served basis
- Only one laptop may be checked out per patron
- Loan periods are for four (4) hours
- No renewals are available for laptop checkouts
- All laptops must be returned thirty (30) minutes before the library closes
- Overdue fines are $5.00 per hour with a maxium of $20.00 per day
- Borrowers are responsible for hardware and software damages
- Replacement costs include accrued overdue fines
Rules
- Never leave laptops unattended
- Laptops may not leave Swem Library
- Report hardware and software problems immediately
Troubleshooting
- Computers will automatically log users off after sixty (60) minutes of inactivity.
- Monitors will turn off after 20 minutes when running on battery power
- Move the mouse
- Log back on
- No work has been lost
