24 hour filmmaking challenge

The William & Mary Global Film Festival, in partnership with Swem Library's Media Center, brings you the 24 Speed Filmmaking Competition. Teams of W&M students and alumni will have 24 hours to write, shoot and edit a short film. The project kickoff ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13 at the Swem Library Research Room. The competition officially starts at 7 p.m. that evening and all films must be finished by 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Films may be two to four minutes long. Each team will be given a prop and line of dialogue that must be used in their film, as well as a genre for their film.

Last year’s event drew 22 film submissions. The 2014 Jury Prize, selected by a panel of visiting artists and others, went to “I Love The Farm.” The audience award for the student category went to “Orange is the Warmest Color,” with “Increbidle Explorers” winning the audience award for the alumni category. A public screening of the films will be held on Friday, Feb. 20from 11 p.m.–1 a.m. in the Kimball Theatre in Merchants Square. Awards will be announced after the screening.
